So you find certain words annoying? Whatever

NEW YORK (Reuters) - "You know," "whatever" is a really annoying term -- "like" "you know." We're "just sayin'."

When it comes to the most annoying words or phrases used in conversation, those four top the list in 2012, according to the annual Marist Poll.

"Whatever" headed the list, cited by 32 percent of adults, and next came "like," which 21 percent didn't like.

Runners-up included "Twitterverse" and "gotcha'."

The results mirrored last year's survey when "whatever" topped the annoying words list for a third straight year. But "seriously," named by 7 percent last year, dropped off the list entirely - really.

Marist questioned 1,246 adults in a U.S. nationwide, telephone survey.

Results showed differences by age and regions, with people younger than 45 or in the Northeast especially annoyed by "like," while "you know" offended more of the 45-and-over set.

Men and women gave similar responses overall, but whites were twice as likely as non-whites to find "you know" irritating. And people under 45 were more than twice as likely as those over 45 to be put off by "just sayin.'"

BMW 3 series a powerful yet fuel efficient hybrid car - Auto Types

?

?

Rating (4.5/5) 4.5 Star Rating 57 users

Hybrid power train is the latest trend in the car world. Each and every one of the leading car manufacturing brands is struggling with the competition for cutting down the fuel intake of their car. Fuel efficiency and environmental pollution are two of the leading concerns of the modern world. And the car manufacturers are trying to design models that will have the solution to both the problems.

The latest inclusion in this list is the brand new BMW 3 series. The BMW 3 series is one of the bestselling hybrids cars in recent times. The car combines internal combustion petrol driven engine with one run by electricity. So basically has the criteria required to be called a hybrid car.
The aim of all hybrid cars is to go green. The fuel intake of a hybrid car is very low, so that there is minimal stress on the non-renewable resources of energy from this car. The car should cover the maximum distance possible using the minimum amount of non-renewable fuel resource.

The other part of a hybrid car should be to minimise the release of environmental pollutants. The amount of harmful gases that is emitted by a hybrid car affects the amount of pollutants that is present in the air. So a hybrid car should be environment friendly.

The BMW 3 series can be both, but is seldom so. The car can be driven in one of the several modes, one of which is the eco pro mode. The car can be both fuel efficient and eco-friendly when driven at low acceleration in the eco pro mode, but it is seldom driven satisfying these conditions.

If you move on to any other driving mode of the car then the car is all about the speed and thrill. The BMW 3 series has all the required specifications to make it comparable to any sports car. When operated in the sport+ mode, the BMW 3 series blazes through the highway roads.
The design of the car is very impressive. It has all the essential features required in the design of a hybrid car. The internal combustion engine is well in sync with the electric motor. The car can conserve some energy when it is operated, although not as much as the other hybrid cars, but then it makes up for this in the other aspects of the car.

The car packs a powerful engine. It can produce about 340 HP which is enough to produce speeds of up to 155 miles per hour. The pickup of the car is also very nice; it can reach 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. These figures are pretty impressive.

The car consumes one gallon of fuel per 48 miles, which is great. It also emits only 139 gm. of CO2 per kilometre. So it is qualifies as a good hybrid car. The car is priced at about 40,000 pounds, which is quite costly, but then the car is packed with features and is well worth the price.

Should the chat list display a region instead of a system?

(Today 03:16 AM)Govedo13 Wrote: ?Yes it is much desired feature.

-reduce the systems a bit creating activity hubs, the 100 average players nowadays does not need even the half of the existing systems.
-give option via special base produced equipment to detect the players in the systems as well.
-rebalance the trade system so there are like 10-20 top runs and other sux because trading unpirated would break the said food chain in discovery.
In general no point to add it to 4.87 since it wont work well because the other more important things are not done.

Ugh. People and bad assumptions.

I can't remember how much of this is public knowledge, but if you've been keeping a close eye on development, you'd notice that many undesirable systems - particularly some (not all) Guard systems and the useless Gallic "home" systems - will be turned into dead-end systems, causing players not to fly through there when travelling.

Additionally, Trade is being refocussed, with the best routes slated to become ones for House Corporations on inter-House circuits. There will be more hubs and activity chokepoints likely to be created as a result.

Relax! StationCreator is bringing scheduled TV broadcasts to online ...

Leanback TV

TV is magic in a number of ways that online video has not yet replicated. For starters, there?s always something playing the second you turn it on. Also, even though there are more channels today than ever before, there remains a finite amount of choices. When you don?t know what you?re looking for, it?s actually comforting to know that you won?t be scrolling forever. With most online video portals, however, the experience is quite the opposite. There?s a reason that an endless feed of Web video content aggregated and curated into one place, hasn?t been enough to kill traditional TV because. In many ways, the massive amount of options leads to paralysis by choice, and sometimes, it?s still nice to have a fully leanback consumption experience.

San Diego online video startup StationCreator hopes that its scheduled, continuous broadcast technology is the key ingredient missing amid today?s Web TV world. Via its platform launched publicly just last week, viewers have the option to browse by a traditional channel guide and select a never-ending content stream to watch and enjoy. Like traditional TV, everyone around the world that?s tuned into that same station will be viewing the same content at the same time.

StationCreator channel owners are given a suite of video scheduling tools built on top of its hosting infrastructure to aggregate content from existing online video sites including YouTube, Vimeo, DailyMotion, UStream, LiveStream, and Justin.tv. Users can import a single item or a full channel from each source. Crucially, the video is played directly from the source and any existing interstitial or overlay advertising from the source is maintained within StationCreator. Users can even mix in live streams and advertisements. It?s incredibly easy to allow the system to create a schedule automatically, or the channel owner can be more deliberate and manually program the content.

In either case, the result is a continuous broadcast stream that viewers can watch on a fullscreen player page, or in a custom player that can be embed on any website. Users can check out the broadcast schedule to see what?s playing at later in the day or can just sit back and enjoy whatever appears on screen. For those more impatient, all content is available ?On Demand? as well.

(Check out PandoDaily?s sample StationCreator station created from our YouTube channel.)

Previously, running a terrestrial television network required equipment, permits, and content licensing that was out of reach for nearly every individual and organization. StationCreator is available to anyone, from premium content providers to individual video bloggers and hobbyists. This means that its channels will range from the equivalent of online HBO to Public-Access Television. The platform won?t be able to make dull content interesting, but at least it will offer a compelling new consumption experience that may give it a fighting chance.

StationCreator is available in a Free and paid Pro version. Free users don?t have the option to manually schedule content or to embed their channel onto another site. Pro users get all-you-can-eat access to the platform?s features including a customizable player and schedule widgets, as well as robust reporting that goes beyond Google Analytics to offer proprietary real-time user behavior tracking tools.

The technical problem solved here is actually quite complex, according to StationCreator founder and former NBC and CBS interactive producer Jon Labes. The startup has developed a patent-pending scheduler and autopilot system that intelligently analyzes existing online video metadata to interpret duration and other key details and then assemble it into a seamless broadcast experience. ?It would still take YouTube a good six to eight months to cook up a bad version of what we have,? he says. (That?s assuming they haven?t already.)

YouTube is actually not the most natural competitor to StationCreator. Given that the startup?s cross-platform support, it?s actually more likely that a third-party company attempts to duplicate its offering. Given his head start and the technological hurdles, Labes is rightfully pleased with his position.

StationCreator began as an idea inside Howard Lindzon?s StockTwits in mid-2011, and now exists as a standalone venture. The five person team is being incubated by the Southern California angel investor?s Social Leverage fund and has raised approximately $350,000 to date from Lindzon and other angels. StationCreator will likely pursue a traditional Seed round of $1 million to $2 million in Q1 2013.

The startup has been in private beta ?for months, with approximately 600 early users ranging from NBC News and the San Diego Union Tribune newspaper, to a large number of regional mega-churches. According to Labes, the startup has been receiving an overwhelming amount of inbound demand and is currently in partnership discussions revolving around licensing its API for use in third-party integrations. In the future, StationCreator hopes to offer users one-click publishing of a unique mobile app built around their channel and available for download on the iTunes and Google Play app stores.

For many of these potential broadcasters, YouTube and/or their website or blog are the current the default repositories for original and curated video content. The problem is, that for frequent visitors, the reverse chronological list of content rarely changes, with occasional new content appearing at the top and old content getting quickly buried. With StationCreator, there?s always something on to engage would be visitors, and new life is breathed into evergreen legacy content. There aren?t many other places in the world of online video where you can say either of those things.

Boycott-hit voting begins in Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY (AP) ? Security forces watched over polling stations Saturday as Kuwait held parliamentary elections that underscored the deepening divide between the ruling establishment and opposition groups staging a widespread boycott of the voting.

The election is certain to bring a pro-government parliament after months of political upheavals in the strategic Gulf nation, a major oil producer and hub for U.S. ground forces as part of the Pentagon's military counterweight to Iran.

But the election snub now leaves a broad range of opposition factions ? ranging from hardline Islamists to Western-leaning liberals ? outside the political process and raises the risks they could increasingly take their grievances to the streets.

"I'm certain that the boycott will have an effect on the turnout," said Information Minister Mohammad al-Abdullah Al Sabah, a member of the ruling family.

He appealed, however, for the opposition to confine their objections within the country's "legal framework."

The anti-government groups have bitterly denounced a decree in October by Kuwait's emir to end an unusual balloting system that allowed four choices per voter.

Critics claim the new one-vote-per-person rule will make it easier for state authorities to potentially influence the outcome. They also say the emir overstepped his authority by changing the voting rules without public debate.

On the eve of the election, more than 15,000 people joined a peaceful pro-boycott march in the first rally permitted by authorities since a ruling last month banning gatherings of more than 20 people.

Security forces were deployed around polling stations, but there were no immediate indications of unrest or boycott supporters trying to disrupt the voting. Some opposition groups predict turnout could be well below 50 percent.

Kuwait has the Gulf's most political powerfully parliament, which was in the hands of Islamists and their allies earlier this year before the courts dissolved it over a legal challenge by the ruling establishment over electoral districts.

The country also has some of the widest political and media freedoms among the Gulf Arab states, but key government posts and policies remain under the control of the ruling family.

Complaints against authorities include increasing efforts to muzzle free speech and failure to have Kuwait's economy and growth keep pace with other dynamic Gulf centers such as Qatar's capital Doha and the United Arab Emirates' hubs of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Last month, four people were arrested on charges of insulting Kuwait's emir in Twitter posts.

Yet Islamists and their backers also worry many Kuwaitis for open support of stricter Muslim codes such as censoring artists and imposing death sentences for those convicted of denigrating Islam.

A 29-year-old voter, Ali Boushehri, said he was frustrated with both sides.

"I hold the government accountable for many of our shortcomings in Kuwait, and that is why I am voting," he said. "I don't agree with the opposition. Boycotting is not a good thing to do ... I want to vote because I believe in democracy."

The region's popular uprisings have not spilled over to Kuwait in a major way as in nearby Bahrain, and it remains unlikely opposition groups would wage an all-out challenge to the current system and risk losing the generous cradle-to-grave benefits provided by the state.

But clashes last month between protesters and security forces displayed the potential for violence to escalate.

Kuwait also has been hit by a wave of labor unrest and strikes earlier this year, including walkouts that grounded the state carrier, Kuwait Airways, and temporarily closed customs posts and left several hundred trucks stranded at the border.

Calls for better working conditions have grown louder in the wake of the Arab Spring uprisings. Kuwaitis are used to well-paid government jobs and benefits that increasingly have become a burden on state finances despite the country's huge oil wealth.

Do Apple Products Ever Go On Sale?

You may want an iPhone, an iPad, or maybe a new Mac, but Apple products always seem pricier than their competition. Still, if you know a few secrets, you can get yourself a deal.

Apple is a very powerful company. They control the supply chain tightly and don't have rolling sales like other retailers and manufacturers. They also know that their reputation leads to a level of demand that justifies their relatively high prices. But that doesn't mean you have to pay the list price.

The One Day Apple Discounts its Products
Apple regularly discounts its products on Black Friday ? the day after Thanksgiving. Both in store and online, they offer 7-10% off popular items. That's about? $100 off laptops, $40 off the iPad, and $10 off the iPod nano. Best Buy usually discounts its Apple products, just a little more than the company itself. Last year, for example, they offered $45 off the iPad. But even those aren't always the best Black Friday deals for this gear.

Gift Card Deals
This holiday season, don't just look at the straight discounts advertised. Instead, look for gift card deals. Last year, if you bought an iPad at Meijer, they gave you an $80 store gift card with your purchase. If you bought an iPod touch at Toys R Us, they gave you a $50 store card. When you factor that in, these incentives may just save you more than a straight discount.

Student / Teacher Discounts
If you can prove that you are a teacher or a college student, Apple discounts its gear by about 10%. Start by finding the Education Pricing section of their website. Also, between June and September, Apple usually bundles products for students. For example, you might be able to buy a new Mac and get an iPod touch for free.

Older Models
Apple always marks down its products when a new one is announced. As soon as the iPhone 5 was announced, they cut the iPhone 4S from $199 to $99. When the new Macbook Pro came out, the previous model got a $100 discount right away. Sure, you may feel you have to have the latest model, but you also have to ask yourself: did the value to you of the previous model really drop by $100 overnight? A great guide to when new Apple products are expected can be found at the Macrumors site.

[Related: Is iPad Mini Worth Buying?]

As for year-round discounts, your best bet is buying refurbished from Apple.

Go to the Certified Refurbished section of their website, and find laptops and iPods for about 15% off, iPads for as much as 30% off, and more. Apple certifies these used products have been tested ? and they come with a one-year warranty.

Other Online Outlets
Sites like Amazon and Macmall offer everyday low prices that may end up beating other deals simply because they don't include sales tax. So be sure to factor that into your decision making.

Interview With Denise Richards - Career, Motherhood, Body Image ...

I spent the afternoon in New York last week with long distance friend, mom, and actress?Denise Richards. We chatted over tea and scones, and then I decided to ask her some questions and find out what it?s like to be a single, working mom in the spotlight.

Denise was candid, honest and sincere about her life. I give you, our interview?

ED ? Denise, can you tell us a little about your upbringing. Did you know from a young age that you wanted to be an actress? When and how did you get that lucky break?

DR ? I grew up in a small town outside outside of Chicago. I grew up very differently than how my girls are growing up today. My mom was a stay at home mother. We were actually a Nielsen family ? we were your all around typical American family. Family of 4. Very close. My father, my sister and I were part of a father-daughter group called The Drifters. My mom had dinner on the table every night at 6 o?clock. Everything was about family growing up.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to act. But growing up in a small town, I didn?t think it would be possible living in Illinois. My dad was tired of working outdoors in the cold winters, and decided to move us to California. From there, I started modeling, then getting into acting. I started taking acting lessons, and landed a few guest spots. I was lucky- I was able to support myself even with those little jobs.

My big break was?Starship Troopers ? it was so cool. My first movie in a movie theater! From there on in, I became a working actor.

Denise Richards, Starship Troopers

ED ? Breaking into Hollywood can be an uphill battle. Were there ever moments where you felt as though your dreams were impossible? How did you stay positive and motivated in your career?

DR ? There?s always that little word called REJECTION. It happens to everyone. There were many times that I got discouraged when I didn?t get a role, but I loved what I was doing so much, it was this love that kept me motivated. I had a passion for acting, and I wouldn?t give up.

To this day, I love being on set with filmmakers, the actors, the crew. I love working. It has always been my passion that has kept me motivated through rejection. When you have a passion for something, you MUST keep at it. It sounds very simple, but I know it to be true.

ED ? What does being a single woman and mom mean to you? What advice can you offer to other single, working moms when life gets overwhelming? How do you balance it all?

Denise Richards and daughters Sami, Lola and Eloise (c/o People Magazine)

DR ? I think moms, single or not, put a lot of pressure on ourselves trying to balance it all. It?s NEVER going to be perfectly balanced- the sooner you know this, the sooner you can relieve some of the pressure you put on yourself. When you?re working, you will miss some moments with your kids. When you?re away with your husband, you?ll miss some moments at work. When you?re with the kids, you?ll miss moments there too. I think it?s about prioritizing, not about balancing. It?s more about juggling, in my opinion, than balancing. Keeping things running as smoothly as possible, and managing all those balls in the air as best as you can.

The secret to balance for me, is about living and being in the moment. Otherwise you?re simply never enjoying life ? when you?re with your kids, you?re worried about work, and so on.

About being a single mom- I don?t think of myself as a single mom. I just think of myself as a mom. I think even if you have a nanny (depending on your financial situation), or grandparents to help out, at the end of the day, you?re the one raising your kids. And that?s a tough job. My children are my priority and I want to be the one raising them. The best gift you can give your child is your time. We don?t get these moments back. When my girls were babies, there were incredible jobs that I didn?t take, because I didn?t want to miss all those moments. Life is always about making choices.

ED ? You are known world-wide as a sex symbol, and you?ve been ranked as one of the most beautiful people alive. How do you deal with such close scrutiny of your body? Describe your relationship with your body and with food, and do you have any tips for staying in the shape that you?re in?

DR ? I have been lucky enough to be thin my whole life. But I take good care of myself and I think clean living makes a difference. I?m careful what I put in my body, I try and stay out of the sun. I?m lucky that I didn?t feel the pressure to be thin in this business- I can probably credit good genes for that.

But, after my mom passed away, I gained 10-15 pounds, which was a lot for my frame. And I think it was TMZ that posted my weight gain (it was splashed all over the Internet), and I was shocked! I had never experienced such scrutiny and cruelty about my body. The tabloids had no idea everything that was going on in my life, and it was really mean, and very hurtful. ?I try to never read things in the media, ?but ?Oh look at fat Denise,? was difficult to read.

During this grieving period, was the first time I experienced emotional weight gain. I don?t even think I changed my eating habits- the weight just stuck to me ?cuz I was so grief-stricken?over losing my mom. But after some time, I decided to buckle down? I wanted to feel better emotionally and get back to the way I looked physically, so I started getting back into my pilates routine, and being really consistent. I started to feel better.

My secret to staying in shape is consistency. When I consistently stick to my routine, that is when I feel my best. I also think you need to work out for your own body. Just because something works for someone else, doesn?t mean it will work for you. So I believe you should continue to try different activities until you find out what works for you. I have tried everything out there you can imagine- weights, classes, everything, and for me, the best thing my body responds to is pilates.

ED ? Your marriage and divorce with Charlie Sheen were plastered all over tabloids for months and you endured invasive prying by the press into your personal family life. How did you maintain your sanity during this ordeal?

Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen

DR ? I maintained my sanity by knowing what?s important, and what was important was taking care of my two babies. I knew over time it would pass. It didn?t pass as quickly as I would have liked (laughing), but I knew I had to stay focused on really blocking a lot of that stuff out and being the best mom I could be.

My kids were too little to understand what was going on during my divorce, which was a blessing. They were babies. It was all about being a mom and being there for them.

?

ED ? What is your advice to other women who find themselves in a toxic relationship? It is not as easy as it seems, to just get up and walk away from the family unit. Women sit on the fence for months, often years before leaving a toxic relationship. Can you touch on this?

DR ? I think the advice I would offer to women contemplating leaving their partner, is to answer these 2 questions- Would I want this partner for MY daughter? ?And would I want MY son to grow up and be like this person? If you answer no to these questions, then he is not the right person to continue on with.

About drawing the strength to leave your marriage, that is so different?for every person. Everyone?s situation is different. It?s so personal for each individual and no one should judge a friend or another woman, and say things like, ?She should leave her husband immediately,? or ?I can?t believe you lived miserably in that marriage for so long.?

I always say, we don?t know what goes on behind closed doors, and we don?t know the ins and outs of anyone?s relationship except the people involved. All we can hope for, is great support around us, and support to get us through whatever decision we choose to make.

?

ED ? You speak often of your great love and respect of your mother, who passed away too young from cancer. What was the best life advice that you received from your late mother?

DR ? She gave me all kinds of advice. She gave me advice on how to be a mom, advice in my career. But I think her best advice she ever gave me was the importance of living in the moment. The gift that comes with being in the moment. And she herself always lived like that. She was always that way. I also think it?s really good advice, because when you let your mind wander to the past or the future, you?re not present. You?re not there. It?s as if you didn?t experience that moment. You end up missing a lot of wonderful moments.

ED ? Tell us, what are you working on at the moment in your career? And for a woman looking to break out into the media today (you were ?a Bond girl, my goodness), what advice would you give her?

Denise Richards in James Bond The World Is Not Enough

DR ? I just finished the 100th episode of 90210 which was fun, and?I?m now filming a new?tv pilot called Socio.

For anyone looking to break into the business, I think many underestimate the importance of hard work. Rejection and roadblocks are part of the job, but if you believe in yourself, nothing will replace that ?pick yourself up, and dust yourself off? attitude, and work ethic. If this is truly what you want to do, and if it?s your dream, then never give up and keep at it. But that goes with anything in life when pursuing your career ? keep plugging away.

Denise Richards on Charlie Sheen's new sitcom Anger Management

ED ? What inspired you to choose to adopt your youngest daughter? Three daughters! What is that like, a house full of girls? In fact, you?re an avid animal adopter and rescuer too. What is it about your need to rescue? My psycho babble is showing its face. ;)

DR ? I just knew I wasn?t done. And I have always wanted to adopt. I decided to pursue it on my own? I just knew that my family wasn?t complete. I think that children choose their parents- and Eloise just found me a different way. I can?t explain it. I just knew there was another soul for me.

We didn?t know she was a girl until three weeks before she was born. So, we weren?t sure if Eloise was going to be a girl or a boy. My sister has three boys, so it was so delightful to find out that I was having another girl. To have a house full of girls is the best, and I love it.

As for the animals, I have no idea where that came from. Ever since I was little, ever since I can remember, if there was a stray dog, I would bring it home and care for it, and try and find its owner. My sister is the opposite- she doesn?t have any animals. I gravitate toward the ones who are in special need of care, who have been abused, and who need medical attention.

And again, back to the adoption, there is no difference in me giving birth or adopting. AT ALL. I feel like I gave birth to Eloise.

ED ? And finally, if you could offer your twenty-year old self advice, what would you tell her?

I would tell her not to sweat the small stuff in life. That everything in life has a time and place, and not to be in such a rush to do everything. There is beauty in taking your time, and enjoying each stage and phase.

?

Feel free to leave Denise a comment or questions. She will be reading.

And to all the people who have been affected by the devastation of Hurricane Sandy (including Denise who is in New York at the moment), my thoughts and prayers are with you.?

Obama scraps campaign event, returns to DC

President Barack Obama delivers pizzas to campaign volunteers in OrlandoORLANDO, Florida - President Barack Obama scrapped his planned campaign appearance here with Bill Clinton on Monday and planned to return to Washington to oversee the response to deadly Hurricane Sandy.

"Due to deteriorating weather conditions in the Washington area, the President will not attend today's campaign event in Orlando," White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters. "The President will return to the White House to monitor the preparations for and early response to Hurricane Sandy."

Obama had flown down to Florida on Sunday, earlier than scheduled, in order to get ahead of the storm and attend the campaign rally. The show will go on, campaign aides said, including remarks by former Florida governor Charlie Crist and Democratic Senator Bill Nelson before Clinton speaks.

But with tens of millions of Americans in the path of the largest hurricane ever to churn through the Atlantic, and forced evacuations up and down the northeast seaboard, the president apparently judged that taking part in a political campaign event was non-optimal.

The president still officially planned to campaign in Wisconsin on Tuesday ? but that event seemed likely to be cancelled as well. He has already scrapped his participation in events in Virginia and Ohio ? both also to feature Clinton.

Obama has signed emergency declarations for Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Jersey, Washington DC, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, freeing up federal dollars and materiel to help respond to Sandy.

Fly like an eagle: New launch and recovery system takes unmanned aerial vehicles into the future

ScienceDaily (Oct. 10, 2012) ? A shipboard-capable system designed to support both the launch and recovery of the Scan Eagle unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) successfully completed final demonstration flight testing Sept. 27 at a testing range in eastern Oregon.

Sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR), the Compact Launch and Recovery System (CLRE) will provide a small-scale solution for the unmanned surveillance craft's operations.

"This system's shipboard capability is unique," said John Kinzer, who manages ONR's Air Vehicle Technology Program. "It's more compact than other systems, so you can install it on a small special operations boat -- or save additional space on a larger ship, since space is always at a premium on any vessel."

The Scan Eagle is designed to provide the warfighter with advanced capabilities for real-time situational awareness and force protection information.

CLRE uses a compressed-air launcher to shoot the Scan Eagle into the sky. Once airborne, the UAV transmits real-time electro-optic and infrared (IR) imagery to a ground station where it can be recorded for analysis.

To land, small hooks on the UAV's wings catch hold of rope suspended from the system's extendable mast and arms. Once the mission is completed, the whole system can be folded up, like a folding chair or table, for storage.

Developed by Insitu Inc., the system is smaller and lighter than the current SuperWedge launcher and Skyhook recovery systems combined. Its design accommodates all weight classes of the company's Scan Eagle UAV design, including a model equipped with an IR camera, and provides the same air vehicle successful recovery rate.

The system currently is trailer mounted for testing and ease of towing behind ground vehicles, but Insitu is exploring modifications of this version for rapid deployments. Its turntable base allows for mounting to a variety of integration structures.

Today, it is primarily the U.S. Marine Corps that uses Scan Eagle, but other forces -- including the U.S. Coast Guard -- also could have uses for the unit. Coast Guard officials attended testing last week.

Kenya coast separatist official charged with inciting violence

MOMBASA, Kenya (Reuters) - A senior leader of a separatist group campaigning for the secession of Kenya's coastal strip was charged in court on Monday with inciting members of his group to disobey the law by declaring the coast is not a part of the east African country.

Mohamed Mraja, the spokesman for the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC), denied the charges which came days after four people were killed when a gang of youths brandishing machetes tried to attack a Kenyan cabinet minister at a public meeting.

Police linked the attack to the MRC and said they had also arrested four others believed to be officials of the group. The MRC denied any involvement.

The MRC has unnerved investors in the famed tourist haven by threatening to disrupt March elections if its demands for secession are rejected by Kenyan authorities.

Analysts fear any unrest could turn the tourist hot spot - with its sandy beaches and pristine waters a jewel in the East African nation's economy - into a potential flashpoint, fuelling wider fears of ethnic violence and riots during the elections.

MRC's grievances stem from what they call decades of marginalisation of the coast region in key economic areas including education and jobs by the central government.

Mraja escaped an early morning raid by police at his home, and from his hiding place told reporters he feared he would be killed over his public demands for secession.

He later turned himself in accompanied by lawyers, and said other senior officials of the MRC group were also in hiding.

"They are tracking my phone calls, threatening my family and friends and have now arrested my wife, but released her shortly after," he told reporters earlier from his hiding place.

"If I was in the house at that time, you probably might never have heard of me again."

Police said they wanted Mraja for questioning and possible prosecution, but denied any intention to kill him.

The court freed Mraja on bond pending his trial.

Police say the group is also planning to disrupt national school examinations at the coast due to start next month.

Next year's vote will be the first since a war crimes court launched cases against four Kenyans, including two presidential hopefuls in the 2013 election.

The two are accused of masterminding tribal violence that killed more than 1,200 people following a disputed 2007 presidential poll.

Last month more than 100 people were killed as tribes fought over land further north along the coast, adding to fears of serious unrest ahead of the polls.

last post - Talk About Marriage

When I 1st started dating my GF 8 month ago, I felt so confident about myself, it seemed like no other men existed, at least in her eyes. Over time my insecurities and jealousy has gotten out of control and I dont know how to stop these feelings and its really affecting our relationship.

She always tells me how much she loves me and is attracted to me, writes me love notes all the time and even buys me flowers sometimes. we are always grabbing eachother and making out, and we have great sex whenever possible. she says she wants to have kids with me and marry me someday. Im usually a very discipled person about most things in my life, and Ive always been very independent, and I dont scare easily either, but I love this woman and her daughter so much the thought of her being with or wanting another man is terrifying to me. Its gotten to the point I cant be happy cause even a guy liking a harmless picture on her FB drives me into a jealous frenzy, WTF is wrong with me?

I think what has me so wound up is some of the interactions she has had with her daughters father who she was on/off with for 5 years up until summer before last, nothing too awful just ambiguous flirting and txting pictures of their daughter and stuff. she also told him we broke up after a fight we had back in june, shes said she thought we did and was just confiding in him. I told her Im not comfortable with her having that kind of relationship with but she swears shes not interested in him but I still always feel like Im competing with him. I cant even go with her to pick her daughter up from his house, cause I cant stand the sight of him near her.

I also found out recently she friended and inboxed an old BF she said treated her very badly, again nothing bad just "hey whats up" kinda stuff and it was just one conversation back in july right before we moved in together but it really hurts that she would do that, she apologized but I just cant get past it and I feel like I cant trust her or really take her seriously about how much she says she loves me. Whever I try to talk to her about my fears it turns into a huge fight.
This is taking over my life, affecting my work and hobbies, but most of all its killing this otherwise beautiful relationship. I wish I could be more secure because I feel like my jealousy an insecurity will eventually drive her away or worse, into the arms of another man, but I just dont know how to control it. Any help is much appreciated.

Weak forecast on Asian economy sends stocks lower

Investors looked warily at forecasts for poor U.S. corporate earnings and weaker growth in Asia and decided there wasn't much reason to buy stocks.

In early afternoon trading Monday, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 46 points at 13,563. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell six points to 1,455 and the Nasdaq composite gave up 27 points to 3,108.

Companies in the S&P 500 index are expected to post an overall decline in profits for the first time in 11 quarters when earnings season starts on Tuesday, according to FactSet.

Tuesday will be the five-year anniversary of the S&P's high close of 1,565.15. It's still almost 7 percent below that level.

Stocks have been on a strong run, with the Dow up 11 percent this year and the S&P 500 ? a benchmark tracked by many mutual funds ? up almost 16 percent. But Asia's slowdown, Europe's problems, and now weak U.S. corporate earnings have caused some investors to wonder if the run-up has been too far, too fast.

The World Bank warned that a "more pronounced slowdown" is possible in China, the world's second-largest economy. It also cut its overall growth forecast for developing countries in Asia.

Slower growth in Asia could drag down the U.S. economy. One of the few bright points for the U.S. during the recession was tremendous growth in export demand by developing nations in Asia and other regions.

Even though the U.S. economy isn't doing badly, investors have been counting on growth in Asia for help, said Rex Macey, chief investment officer at Wilmington Trust Investment Advisors. "There was a point where we said 'Thank goodness for Asia and China. Their growth can fuel the recovery." That's not so clear anymore, he said.

Stocks and industries that depend most heavily on U.S. economic growth were among the biggest losers on Monday. Apple fell $13.07 to $639.60 and Intel fell 22 cents to $2.46. Home Depot fell $1.03 to $62.17 and Walt Disney lost 8 cents to $52.17.

Wal-Mart Stores and American Express shares didn't move much after they announced a reloadable prepaid card with no recurring or overdraft fees. But the news hammered shares of prepaid card competitor Green Dot Corp., which has also offered a card with Wal-Mart. Green Dot fell $2.57, or 20 percent, to $10.28.

UnitedHealth Group rose 41 cents to $57.54 after the health insurer said it would pay $4.9 billion in cash to buy most of Brazilian health benefits and hospital services provider Amil Participacoes.

Truck and engine maker Navistar rose $1.70, or 8 percent, to $22.91 after saying it will add two board members associated with activist investors, heading off a proxy battle.

European markets were also lower. The CAC-40 in France fell 1.5 percent, the FTSE 100 in Britain was down 0.5 percent, and the German DAX was down 1.4 percent.

U.S. government bond trading was closed for the Columbus Day holiday.

Calif. initiative will test appetite for GMO food

It also would prohibit labeling or advertising such food as "natural." (AP Photo/Damian Dovarganes)

(AP) ? Calories. Nutrients. Serving size. How about "produced with genetic engineering?"

California voters will soon decide whether to require certain raw and processed foods to carry such a label.

In a closely watched test of consumers' appetite for genetically modified foods, the special label is being pushed by organic farmers and advocates who are concerned about what people eat even though the federal government and many scientists contend such foods are safe.

More than just food packaging is at stake. The outcome could reverberate through American agriculture, which has long tinkered with the genes of plants to reduce disease, ward off insects and boost the food supply.

International food and chemical conglomerates, including Monsanto Co. and DuPont Co., have contributed about $35 million to defeat Proposition 37 on the November ballot. It also would ban labeling or advertising genetically altered food as "natural." Its supporters have raised just about one-tenth of that amount.

If voters approve the initiative, California would become the first state to require disclosure of a broad range of foods containing genetically modified organisms, or GMOs. Food makers would have to add a label or reformulate their products to avoid it. Supermarkets would be charged with making sure their shelves are stocked with correctly labeled items.

Genetically altered plants grown from seeds engineered in the laboratory have been a mainstay for more than a decade. Much of the corn, soybean, sugar beets and cotton cultivated in the United States today have been tweaked to resist pesticides or insects. Most of the biotech crops are used for animal feed or as ingredients in processed foods including cookies, cereal, potato chips and salad dressing.

Proponents say explicit labeling gives consumers information about how a product is made and allows them to decide whether to choose foods with genetically modified ingredients.

"They're fed up. They want to know what's in their food," said Stacy Malkan, spokeswoman for the California Right to Know campaign.

Agribusiness, farmers and retailers oppose the initiative, claiming it would lead to higher grocery bills and leave the state open to frivolous lawsuits. Kathy Fairbanks, spokeswoman for the No on 37 campaign, said labels would be interpreted as a warning and confuse shoppers.

"It's not necessary. Worse, it leaves people with the impression that there's something wrong with the food. That's not the case," she said.

The government approves genetically engineered plants and animals on a case-by-case basis, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture restricts the use of GMO crops that might harm other plants. The Food and Drug Administration can only require labeling if a genetically altered food is different ? in taste, for example ? from its non-engineered version or known to cause allergies.

The World Health Organization has said no ill health effects have resulted from GMO foods currently on the international market. The American Medical Association sees "no scientific justification for special labeling of bioengineered foods" but favors stricter testing before they hit stores.

Still, some consumers are wary and are increasingly demanding to know what's on their dinner plates. With California a trendsetter on other issues, whatever happens in the nation's most populous state could spill onto the national stage.

Already, at least 19 states this year have introduced GMO labeling bills, but none passed.

Alaska, with its dominant wild salmon industry, requires labels on genetically engineered fish, though none is currently on the market. Maine allows GMO-free products to be labeled as such.

The FDA is evaluating a petition to label genetically engineered foods nationwide; the group spearheading that effort is separate from California's initiative.

The push comes as genetic engineering is expanding beyond traditional crops. Last year, agricultural regulators approved the planting of genetically modified alfalfa, angering organic farmers who feared cross-contamination. An application is pending on an Atlantic salmon that has been genetically manipulated to grow twice as fast as a regular salmon.

California's ballot initiative would require most raw foods such as fruits and vegetables and processed foods by 2014 to bear the label "partially produced with genetic engineering" or "may be partially produced with genetic engineering." Meat and dairy products would be exempt even if the animals are fed with biotech grains. Organic foods, restaurant meals and alcohol are also excluded.

Supermarkets and other retailers would be in charge of making sure products for sale are properly labeled. Spot checks would be carried out by California Department of Public Health inspectors. The nonpartisan California Legislative Analyst's Office estimates that it could cost up to $1 million a year to regulate.

The initiative also allows individuals or groups to sue if they find food has been mislabeled. The California Grocers Association said supermarkets will do their best to comply if the measure passes, but noted it would be taxing on store owners. The group also fears being the target of lawsuits.

Association President Ronald Fong said it will be a burden for grocers to check the label of every box and keep track of their efforts in case they get sued.

"It's going to be a complete paperwork nightmare," he said.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest, which advocates for food safety, has not taken a side on the initiative. But Gregory Jaffe, the group's biotechnology director, favors giving the government more regulatory power over biotech crops.

"The solution is not labels," he said.

Real estate and moving isn't that everything ... - Relocation - Paris911

20121006-162446.jpg

This morning, we got up early, and we did an update that talked about the changes to some of the debt forgiveness programs that are being offered by the government. In doing so, we came across an article that was located in the Los Angeles times newspaper. The article talked about three different congressmen having different views of the debt forgiveness act that?s going to be voted on mid November 2012.

There?s not too much of a doubt that this particular debt forgiveness program is going to be extended. The only big issue is what are going to be the extension terms.

Are they only going to approve the debt forgiveness act for another year till the end of 2013 or are they going to extend, as one congressman wants, for an additional 3 to 5 years?

Before you take a stab to short sale your home, make sure you?re speaking with a real estate agent that knows what they?re talking about. There are many agents that say they?re short sale experts, when they have never handled even one short sale transaction on the side of the negotiator.

With short sales, it?s totally different representing buyers, than it is when you are a short sale agent representing a real seller.
