CAIRO - Fifteen Egyptian soldiers traveling home for the holiday died after the bus they were in crashed into a truck on a highway near the country's coast on Sunday, a security official told NBC News.?
The crash happened on the road between Cairo and the city of Alexandria as the soldiers headed to join their families during the holy month of Ramadan, an official told The Associated Press. Forty were injured, the AP added. ?
The injured were rushed to a hospital near the crash site in the?Nile Delta province of?Beheira?for treatment, al Jazeera reported.
Around 12,000 people die in Egypt each year due to road traffic, with a?road traffic fatality rate of 42 deaths per 100,000 people, according to a World Health Organization study.?
