Great Coffee Starts With Water Quality

Article Directory :: Food & Drink Articles

Take the most expensive coffee beans, the very latest coffee brewing equipment and an experienced barista and ask them to make you your favorite hot beverage. No doubt you will look forward to your drink. However, if the quality of the water is poor, then the taste and presentation of the final beverage will badly disappoint.

Water quality is the most crucial element in producing a well rounded and tasty coffee that looks as good as it tastes. Coffee is 98-99% water, so it should come as no surprise that water quality is the most important factor in great tasting hot drinks.

Most people realize that mains tap water contains chemicals that have been added during water treatment or have been picked up from other polluting sources. These can give water an unpleasant taste and odor even if it is still technically still safe to drink. Not only is the taste and smell of the coffee affected, but the presentation too. Making an espresso using bad quality water may mean that the crema on top is not visible or than a cappuccino goes flat.

Water quality also varies greatly from the mains supply, so serving a consistent product can be difficult without a proper solution.

In the commercial sector, taste and presentation of coffee and tea products is absolutely vital. Consumers are becoming very coffee savvy and will not put up with inferior drinks. Competition is very keen with new coffee shops springing up everywhere. The key has to be customer retention, and that means serving top quality and consistent drinks every time.

Fitting a cartridge water filter to an espresso machine will take care of the problem and make sure that tasty hot beverages are always served. A water filter will remove the impurities from the water supply that can affect the taste and look of the drink. This will mean great looking, great tasting and consistent beverages all day long.

Most water filters, especially those for commercial beverage equipment, also remove many of the sodium and magnesium ions that cause scale build up in the equipment. This means the coffee machine will function better, need less servicing and generally be more efficient. Scale build up can be a real problem in many areas, and untreated water can quickly cause problems. Scale will build up on heating elements, boilers and pipes causing no end of damage.

The benefits of a water filter are therefore two-fold. Great tasting drinks and healthy reliable equipment. Make sure you have one fitted to your espresso machine or vending equipment.

Water filters are relatively inexpensive to buy and easy to fit. The benefits far exceed the cost. Make sure the filter is exchanged every 6 months or after a certain amount of water has passed through it. Your local supplier of espresso equipment should be able to recommend and supply suitable filters.
