The rate at which we communicate is accelerating. A business phone system has dramatically helped, since we are able to call the other side of the world at mere pennies per minute. This is based on the internet.
Social media is a byproduct of this rapid engagement with online communication. Take Twitter and Foursquare, for example, which allow you to report on something as soon as it happens, and tell friends where you are and what you?re doing there. Virtual mapping is a way to immediately broadcast whatever you want, and you don?t even need a phone, although it certainly helps if you have a smart one. Who knows, one day there may be chips in all of our wrists that monitor our exact position and allow us to take anything we say and project it immediately into cyberspace?
But for those of us who like to retain some control in who we talk to and what we say, for those who think that Big Brother is a little too invasive already, a hosted phone system is the right move. The business phone system makes communication easy, not stalking. You still need to dial and talk to someone on the other end. Call me traditional, but I think there?s something nice about only communicating with someone you want to.
